ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024: DOMINANT AUSSIE GIRLS THRASH PAKISTAN OUT OF THE WORLD CUP

Background

Another World Cup day, another dominant performance by the Australian Women’s Cricket team on the 11th of October as they met the Pakistan Women’s Cricket team in Dubai International Cricket Stadium. It was the 14th match of the tournament and both teams came up with wins under their belt as Aussies were comfortable with 2 wins and Pakistan had the luxury of beating Asian Champions Sri Lanka by surprising many viewers around the world.

Pakistan bat first but in disarray

Going into the match details, Australian Captain Alyssa Healy started her good day by winning the toss and they decided to put an unstable Pakistan batting lineup into batting. It was a good pitch to bat on and many experts were wondering about the decision. Considering the chance the Pakistan got to bat first, there was a chance for them to optimize and get a good score to put pressure on the Aussie batting lineup.

However, standing captain Muneeba Ali started the inning with Sidra Amin and were not able to put up a good opening stand as both were dismissed for 7 runs and 12 runs respectively. The middle order failed as usual as the only spotlight was Aliya Riaz who was able to get 26 runs and it was the highest score of Pakistan Inning. Same as the previous matches, the Pakistan team was in disarray as they were bundled out for 82 runs by not even facing the 20 overs.

Aussie, experienced champion lineup

Experienced champion bowler Ashleigh Gardner spun a web around Pakistan as she was able to get 4 wickets in no time by considering only 21 runs in her 4 overs. Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham were able to get 2 wickets each by putting pressure on the Pakistan side by giving only 15 runs and 16 runs respectively

Going into the chase, it was not a tough target for the well-experienced Aussie lineup who has won multiple world cups as it was only 83 runs. Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy came to open the batting as usual and got a considerable start before Beth Mooney got out for 15 for Sadia Iqbal’s bowling.

Captain Alyssa Healy looked good with the bat before she retired hurt for 37 runs with an injury. However, Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner were able to win the match for Australia as they chased down the target of 83 runs just in 11 overs. Ellyse Perry was on 22 not out at the end as Gardner was on 7 not out at the end. On the other hand, Sadia Iqbal was the sole wicket-taker for Pakistan as she was able to get 1 wicket for 17 in her 3 overs.

Player of the Match:  Ashleigh Gardner

Player of the Match was Ashleigh Gardner for her 4 Wickets as this sealed the Australian spot in Semi Finals. In the end, the Australia Women beat the Pakistan Women by 9 wickets. The loss of this match almost eliminated Pakistan from the World Cup as it was not only a loss but also a loss by a big margin.
