IPL 2024: Purple and Orange cap holders so far

Indian Premier League or say IPL is not a cricketing event only. It is an event of entertainment and fun. IPL 2024 is around the corner, all the teams are tightening their seatbelts. Obviously, this year is also going to be full of four and six as well as powerful wickets. Batsmen will try to score more and bowlers will try to out them and take the wickets. IPL is particularly known for fours and sixes and it is said that it is a game of batsmen but in recent years bowlers also proved them. Significantly they also take some wonderful wickets.

Orange and purple Cap 

Every year, the IPL awards the Orange Cap to the batsman who scores the most runs and obviously, the Purple Cap to the bowler who takes the most wickets. Above all these awards are considered to be a prestigious recognition of individual brilliance in the IPL. After all every player tries their best to win these caps. So, IPL 2024 is coming soon so for that reason we thought to introduce our readers to the Purple and Orange cap holders so far. Even, so let's dive into it to know it. 

IPL 2008

Orange cap: Shaun Marsh (Kings xi Punjab) 

IPL 2008 was the first edition of the Indian Premier League. Additionally, Rajasthan was the winner of this session but KXIP's Shaun Marsh had stolen the show. He scored 616 runs in 11 matches, including 1 century and 5 half-centuries. Finally, these all awarded him the orange cap. 


Purple Cap: Sohail Tanvir (Rajasthan Royals) 

2008 was the year for Rajasthan Royals. In the first edition of IPL Rajasthan grabbed the title. Its hero Sohail Tanvir won the purple cap this year. Altogether He took 22 wickets in 11 innings. 

IPL 2009

Orange cap: Matthew Hayden (Chennai Super Kings) 

Chennai Super King’s Matthew Hayden won the orange cap for the 2009 IPL. He scored 572 runs in 12 innings. However, CSK didn't perform well but Matthew Hayden of CSK performed excellently and claimed the orange cap. 


Purple Cap: RP Singh (Deccan Chargers) 

2009 was a special year for RP Singh and his team Deccan Chargers. All in all, Deccan won the trophy and RP Singh was their hero. After that, he got a purple cap for his extraordinary bowling. Meanwhile, he took 23 wickets in 16 matches. 

IPL 2010

Orange cap: Sachin Tendulkar

This year master blaster Sachin Tendulkar grabbed the orange cap. In this year he scored 618 runs in 15 innings. However, his team didn't win the final but Sachin proved himself. Later on his team, Mumbai Indians witnessed many wins.


Purple Cap: Pragyan Ojha (Deccan Chargers) 

2010 IPL helps the new bowler Pragyan Ojha to become a hero. Accordingly, he claimed the purple cap with 21 wickets in the tournament. Certainly, he played 16 innings in all. Further, his performance helped him in team India. 

IPL 2011

Orange cap: Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bangalore

In IPL 2011, RCB lost its final but Krish Gayle of RCB won the fans' hearts. Eventually, he was the orange cap holder for scoring most runs, he scored 608 runs in the tournament. 


Purple Cap: Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians) 

This year Sri Lankan player Lasith Malinga acquired the orange cap. Significantly In this session, he took 28 wickets in 16 matches innings. However, his team could have made better wins.

IPL 2012

Orange cap: Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bangalore) 

This is a consecutive second year in a row that Chris Gayle of RCB won the orange cap. Altogether, this year he scored 733 runs in just 14 innings. Further, his performance helped his team for many seasons.


Purple Cap: Morne Morkel (Delhi Daredevils) 

Morne Morkel of Delhi Daredevils won the purple cap this year. He took 25 wickets in just 16 innings. Altogether his performance helped his team to play some fantastic matches. 

IPL 2013

Orange cap: Michele Hussey (Chennai Super Kings) 

CSK lost their final match this year, but Michele Hussey of Chennai Super Kings played extraordinarily. He scored a total of 733 runs in 17 innings. 


Purple Cap: Dwayne Bravo (Chennai Super Kings) 

Like batting bowlers of CSK also print their names. With this intention, Dwayne Bravo took 32 wickets in 18 innings. Hence he grabbed the purple cap this season. 

IPL 2014

Orange cap: Robin Uthapa (Kolkata knight riders) 

IPL 2014 was won by KKR and their star player Robin Uthappa won the orange cap finally with a score of 661 in 60 innings including five fifties.


Purple Cap: Mohit Sharma (Chennai Super Kings) 

IPL 2014, finalist CSK didn't convert it into a win. But Mohit Sharma of CSK performed well throughout the season and eventually got the purple cap for their wonderful spells through its bowling. 

IPL 2015

Orange cap: David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) 

David Warner won the orange cap this year for scoring 562 runs in 14 innings. Without a doubt, Warner proved himself again this year. 


Purple Cap: Dwayne Bravo (Chennai Super Kings) 

Dwayne Bravo of West Indies was awarded the orange cap for this session. Accordingly, he took 26 stumps in just 16 innings. 

IPL 2016

Orange cap: Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers bang) 

The IPL 2016 orange cap race is dominated by our king Kohli. Altogether he scored 973 runs in 16 matches and finally bagged an orange cap. Overall his performance was top-notch this year. 


Purple Cap: Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad) 

This year Purple Cap was bagged by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Overall this season he took 23 wickets in his 17 matches. Meanwhile, he delivered some magnificent spells this year. 

IPL 2017

Orange cap: David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) 

This year again David Warner of Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved Orange cap. Moreover, he scored 641 runs in this tournament. 


Purple Cap: Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad) 

Purple cap is also held by Sunrisers Hyderabad players. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar got a Purple cap for their performance he took 26 wickets in 14 innings. 

IPL 2018

Orange cap: Kane Williamson (Sunrisers Hyderabad) 

Kane Williamson of Sunrisers Hyderabad, with 735 runs grabbed the orange cap. Overall he scored eight fifties this year. 


Purple Cap: Andrew Tye (Kings xi Punjab) 

Andrew Tye of Punjab Kings (Kings xi Punjab) grabbed the Purple cap for his extraordinary bowling throughout the tournament. Overall he took 24 wickets in 14 innings. 

IPL 2019

Orange cap: David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) 

During IPL 2019, after a long time, Warner came into form. Significantly this season he smashed 692 runs with the help of one century. Previously in the 2017 IPL, he got the orange cap. 


Purple Cap: Imran Tahir (Chennai Super Kings) 

Imran Tahir dominates this season. Subsequently, he delivered some fantastic bowling spells and totaled 26 wickets in the tournament. Significantly this collectively topped him in the purple cap race and finally, he got it. 

IPL 2020

Orange cap: KL Rahul (kings xi Punjab)

Orange cap: Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings) 

IPL 2021 gave us a new face, Ruturaj Gaikwad played some wonderful innings. Further, he finished the orange cap race by topping it at 635 runs in this tournament. 


Purple Cap: Harshal Patel (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

The race of purple cap was won by RCB bowler Harshal Patel. Also, he ended the tournament with 32 wickets which helped him get the purple Cap of the season. 

IPL 2022

Orange cap: Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals) 

Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler was a wonderful player this year. With the help of four centuries and equivalent half-centuries, above all, he scored a total of 863 this season. 


Purple Cap: Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals) 

The Rajasthan player was leading the Purple cap too. Yuzvendra Chahal claimed their purple cap, especially as he took 27 wickets in 17 innings. 

IPL 2023

Orange cap: Shubham Gill (Gujarat Titans) 

This year IPL was full of cricketing fun. Subhuman Gill smashed some beautiful innings and scored 890 runs in 17 matches. Emphatically he played three centuries innings and four fifties. Collectively these all helped him to get an orange cup for this season. 


Purple Cap: Mohammed Shami (Gujarat Titans) 

Shammi was a disaster for Batman this year. Further, he took a total of 28 wickets in 17 innings. He delivered some fantastic bowling spells this year and launched himself as a dangerous bowler. 

IPL 2024 Orange and Purple cap (Conclusion)

IPL 2024 is about to start, every player will try to perform their best. Previous year's Orange Cap winner Shubman Gill will lead the Gujarat Titans, maybe he will lead the Orange Cap too. Faf du Plessis, Yashaswi Jaiswal, and our king Kohli are also strong candidates.
